Dominio del Águila scorer igen 100 points fra Robert Parker! Læs reaktionen fra vinmager Jorge Monzon

Skuespillerne har Oscar-statuetten, kokkene kæmper om Michelin-stjernerne og i vinens verden er den største anmeldersucces fortsat at opnå de 100 points fra Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. Dominio del Águila har nu for 3. gang præsteret at få en "perfect score" og for 2. gang tilfalder æren topvinen "Canta La Perdíz". Vi har haft fat i Jorge Monzón for at få en reaktion fra ejeren vinmageren, der for længst har sikret sig en plads i historiebøgerne, men som også lige nu står som den klart største stjerne på den spanske vinscene. 

100 points... Og rekordhøje ratings over hele linjen!

For at give lidt perspektiv på, hvor stor en bedrift det er at score 100 points tre gange hos Robert Parker, så har legendariske Vega Sicilia "kun" opnået dette to gange. Dermed overhaler Jorge Monzon sin tidligere arbejdsgiver om end der er et lille stykke vej op til hans anden tidligere læreplads. Et lille bourgognehus ved navn Romanée Conti, der også laver nogle ganske udmærkede vine...

Som Jorge også bemærker i interviewet nedenfor, så var det ikke kun Canta La Perdiz, der imponerede stort, da Robert Parkers spanske vinameldere Luis Gutierrez lagde vejen forbi Dominio del Águila. Flere af vinene heriblandt husets Reserva og hvidvin fik deres højeste bedømmelser nogensinde på henholdsvis 97+ og 98 points.

• What was your reaction to the new 100-point score?

"I first heard the news when one of our distributors called to congratulate us. At the time, I was travelling back to the winery, so I received the news on the road. During that journey, I felt an overwhelming sense of joy, and I found myself thinking about all the people around the world who open a bottle of one of our wines. I felt incredibly grateful to every single one of them… although, of course, my phone didn't stop ringing!

When I arrived at the winery, everyone was overjoyed. The whole team shared a big hug, and we opened a bottle of Canta la Perdiz 2020 to celebrate. It was a truly unforgettable moment."

• What does this kind of recognition mean to you?

Honestly, we don't make wine in pursuit of awards or scores. However, when this kind of recognition arrives, it gives us extra motivation to keep moving forward and confirms that we are on the right path.

Canta la Perdiz 2020 received the perfect score, but many of our other wines also achieved remarkable results. For example, Pícaro del Águila 2023 received 94+ points, while Dominio del Águila Reserva 2021 earned 97+ points. Both offer truly exceptional quality for the price.

In the latest Wine Advocate report on Ribera del Duero, we were awarded the region's only 100-point wine, and four of the twelve highest-rated wines came from our winery. That is simply extraordinary.

• This is the third 100-point score awarded by Robert Parker Wine Advocate, and your winery only began its journey in 2012. What is the secret behind this success, and what is the next goal for Dominio del Águila?

You're absolutely right—this is the third time we have received the highest possible score from The Wine Advocate. When you start a project like this, you naturally have doubts and endless dreams, but even in my wildest imagination I never expected such recognition, especially in such a short period of time. I honestly don't have the words to describe it.

There is no magic formula and no secret recipe. Our success comes from a combination of several key elements:

• An extraordinary heritage of old vineyards.
• A fantastic team of people—today, more than 20 of us work at the winery.
• The experience and knowledge we have accumulated over many years.
• Hard work. A great deal of hard work.

There is also one other element that is absolutely essential to us: the incredible network of friends we have around the world. We don't really think of them as customers or distributors. In every country where our wines are available, there is a passionate team of people who genuinely care about us and have worked tirelessly to introduce our wines to others and help people fall in love with them.

We feel that support every day at the winery, and every time we travel abroad we are overwhelmed by the warmth and affection we receive.

As for our goals, one stands above all others: to continue making wines that we genuinely love ourselves—wines we are proud to share with all of our friends. It would be a mistake to lose sight of the philosophy that has guided us from the very beginning: to remain honest to our land, our vineyards and our own understanding of wine. Our ambition has always been to let every bottle faithfully express the character of our remarkable terroir.

• How have your winemaking methods evolved since the early days of Dominio del Águila? 

Over the past fourteen years, we have naturally had to grow because we now produce more wine than we did at the beginning. But perhaps the most important part of that growth has been staying completely focused on what matters most: the wine itself.

Our fundamental approach remains exactly the same. In fact, it is the same traditional, artisanal method our grandparents, great-grandparents and generations before them used to make the wines of this region.

At the same time, we have embraced modern technology. We have invested in a state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with the latest oenological tools, allowing us to monitor every stage of production through detailed analyses and quality control. We have also introduced tanks of different materials, sizes and shapes, enabling us to experiment and carry out micro-vinifications.

We believe that technology and tradition are not opposing forces—they complement one another. Combining both is not only possible; it is essential if we want to keep learning and continue evolving.

• I imagine climate change also plays a major role in this, doesn't it?

Climate change is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges we face, and it has only just begun. It is not only about increasing heat or prolonged droughts, but also about the increasingly unpredictable and extreme weather patterns we experience every year.

The vine's growing cycle begins earlier each season. Twenty or thirty years ago, harvest generally took place from late September through October. Today, we have already been starting harvest in the first days of September for several years, and this year it looks as though it will begin even earlier.

Our vineyards are located in one of the highest and coolest parts of Ribera del Duero, which gives us an advantage, but the situation is becoming increasingly complex—especially when, like us, your goal is to produce wines that retain freshness, vibrant fruit, minerality and moderate alcohol levels.

Nevertheless, we remain optimistic. Humanity has always adapted to the challenges before it, and we must continue to do so.
